WESTON TURVILLE
WAR MEMORIAL
World War
1 & 2 - Detailed information
Compiled & Copyright © Michael Peck 2018
The
memorial is located on a green at the Junction of School Lane and
Worlds End Lane, Weston Turville, Aylesbury Vale, Buckinghamshire.
It takes the form of a rough hewn granite, Celtic cross on a tapering
plinth, standing on a square, two stepped, base. The main dedication
and names are in lead lettering on face 1 of the plinth, and a small
tablet sitting on the lower step of face 1 has the names of those
from World War 2. During 2002, after further research additional names
from World War 1 and World War 2 were added to a cut out area on face
2 of the plinth. These are also in lead lettering. The makers name
is incised on the front of the lower step, beneath the tablet. The
whole is surrounded by four posts holding a low chain.m Originally
dedicated in 1920, rededicated 10 November 2022.

WESTON
TURVILLE.
War
Memorial.— The final touch has now been given to this memorial
by placing railings around it. There now stands on the village green
a fitting and perpetual testimonial to the twenty brave fellows who
sealed their patriotism with lives in the Great War. At a meeting
of the committee on Monday evening the accounts showed that the subscriptions
were just sufficient to meet the expenses, and votes of thanks wore
accorded to Rev. G. Kennedy Cooke, to Mr. H. C. Wakefield, and to
Mr. T. Goodson.
