  MANEA WAR MEMORIAL World
War 1 & 2 - Roll of Honour with detailed informationMemorial unveiled
April 1920.Compiled and copyright © 2000 Cliff Brown

        The
memorial can be found outside the St Nicholas church, High Street, Manea.
It takes the form of a plain Latin granite cross with a diagnonal wreath
standing on a four-stepped base. There are 39 names listed for World
War 1 and 9 for World War 2. The memorial was originally unveiled and
dedicated 25th April 1920; it cost £270 to erect. The
Cambridgeshire Times of 1920/21 details the unveiling of the Manea
Primitive Methodist Chapel memorial. Most of the men named (about
10 to 12) are on the main Manea, but there were perhaps four or five
who were not, neither are they on other local memorials. This memorial
was sold with the chapel and is now in private hands. Fortunately Barry
Cundell managed to photograph the memorial prior to the sale. 1914-1918LEST WE FORGET
