The memorial is a Traffic Island in Broad St., March. It has a square base upon which is a rough hewn plinth and obelisk. On the front face of the memorial is fixed a figure of a helmeted soldier standing in mourning pose, rifle facing down. The dedication is inscribed below the soldier’s feet with the names of the dead inscribed on the sides of the plinth. The whole memorial is surrounded by stone posts and chain links which in turn stand on a large stepped base which form a traffic island. There are 228 names listed for World War 1 and 103 for World War 2. The memorial was first unveiled by Captain Colin Reith Coote 19 June 1921. The memorial cost £900 which was found by public subscription, the sculptor was Mr. William G Storr Barber. On 5 November 2009 two new tablets were added to the original memorial that includes 19 WW1 men that had been omitted (these have been added and marked with an asterisk '*'). The work was carried out by Fairhaven and Woods Ltd at a cost of £1,457.
