The Memorial is situated at the end of Glover Street, a few yards from the village green, at the junction of Hilton Street, Long Furlong and Glover Street. It takes the form of a concrete base surmounted by three stepped stone base, plinth, tapered shaft and Celtic cross with the inscription in black letttering on the front face of the plinth and top step. There are 14 names for World War 1 and 10 for World War 2 which are also listed in Over St Mary Church.

The inscription reads:

There is a book about the various men on the Over War Memorial called "The Heros of Over".

1914 - 1918

DOGGETT	Frank	Private, 572, F. Sqdn., Northamptonshire Yeomanry who died of wounds on Monday, 15th March 1915; wounds received at Neuve Chappelle. Age 25. Born and resident Over, enlisted Peterborough. Son of John and Hephzibah Doggett, of "The Limes," Over, Cambridge. Buried in BOULOGNE EASTERN CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France. Grave III. D. 22. DRING	Charles Woolston	Private, 29178, 8th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers who died of wounds on Monday, 8th October 1917. Age 20. Born and resident Over, enlisted Bury St. Edmunds. DINES	Hubert Ernest	Driver, 39646, "Q" Bty., Royal Horse Artillery who died on Saturday, 23rd March 1918. Age 30. Son of Mrs. Bessie Dines, of 2, Stockfield Rd., Streatham, London. DINES	Leonard Y.	Serjeant, M2/021791, 604th Mechanical Transport Company, Army Service Corps killed in action on Monday, 29th October 1917. Age 23. Born at Cambridge, enlisted London, resident Streatham. Son of Mrs. Bessie Dines, of 2, Stockfield Rd., Streatham, London. Brother to Hubert above. EASTER	Harold J.	[Listed as J H EASTER on CWGC] Able Seaman, London Z/4730, H.M. Trawler "Sophron.", Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died on Wednesday 22nd August 1917. Oldest son of the pastor of Over Baptist Chapel. At a very young age he became a Baptist pastor himself (in Norfolk possibly) and at first registered as a conscientious objector. Later he joined the Navy (again John Symonds has the details) and was badly injured when the ship he was serving was blown up off the east coast of Scotland. He died very soon afterwards. HEFFER	Frederick John	Rifleman, P/640, 16th Battalion, Rifle Brigade who died of wounds on Saturday, 1st July 1916. Age 29. Son of the late John and Elizabeth Heffer. Born Swaffham Prior, enlisted St Pancras, Middlesex, resident Kentish Town, Middlesex. Buried in MERVILLE COMMUNAL CEMETERY, Nord, France Grave V. A. 12. See Over St Mary also.
HEMINGTON	William Lee	Gunner in the Royal Horse Artillery 1915-1917. Second son of John and Betsy Hemington. Born Ivy House, Fen End, Over on December 30th 1895. He too became a member of the family enterprise run by the Hemington family. They farmed a big acreage at the end of the Fen (Potash and Crane's farms) as well as a considerable acreage behind Ivy House and the family home in Fen End. Lee responded to Kitchner's call in 1914 and volunteered for the army. He enlisted in Cambridge in January 1915 and trained at Woolrich. (John Symonds, author of the recently published "Heroes of Over" has him serving in the Royal Field Artillery but Lee was proud of being selected for the more elite Horse Artillery and his discharge Certificate specified the Horse Artillery). After service in France, the life in the trenches triggered tuberculosis and in late 1916 he was invalided out to a sanatorium in Frimley (Surrey?). In 1917 he was discharged from there and sent home to die. At first he could get up and walk about, but from the summer onwards he was bedridden. He was nursed by his mother and sister (Mary Watts' mother). His sister had postponed her marriage in order to devote herself to him. After intense suffering, (his throat was affected as well as his lungs), he died just before Christmas. He was buried in Over's cemetery a day or two before his 22nd birthday. The snow lay in deep drifts during that bitter winter. His sister once said "I was never young again after watching over a young man gasping for life". See Over St Mary also.
KIRBY	Frederick William	Second Lieutenant, 19th Squadron, Royal Flying Corps. Killed in action during a 19 Squadron operational patrol, in combat with enemy scouts from Jasta 18, over Dadizeele, on Friday, 21st September 1917. Flew BE12s and Spads, based Bailleul Asylum Ground, France. Age 24. Son of Fred and Louisa Kirby, of Meadow Lane, Over, Cambs. In the 1911 census he was a Farmer's son working on his father's farm, aged 18, born Over, Cambridgeshire, resident with his parents, Fred and Louisa Kirby, at Hill Farm, Over, Cambridgeshire. Buried in PONT-DU-HEM MILITARY CEMETERY, LA GORGUE, Nord, France. PLot IV. Row H. Grave 27. See Over St Mary also. ROBINSON	William	Rifleman (Lance Corporal) C/6852, 18th Battalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps. Killed in action Friday 15th September 1916 in France & Flanders. Age 30. Born and resident Over, enlisted London. Son of Charles Downs Robinson and Elizabeth Robinson, of Model Dwellings, Church End, Over, Cambs. TRUNDLER	(D) George	[SDGW Suffolk Regiment gives his name as George Trundler. Listed as D Trundler on CWGC. Both the same number]. Private 26393, 7th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment who died of wounds on Friday, 11th August 1916. Age 32. Born Over, enlisted Willingham. Son of George and Eliza Trundler, of High St., Over, Cambs. WHYBROW	Sidney	Private. 28197, 6th Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment who died of wounds on Friday, 5th April 1918. Age 32. Born Over, enlisted Northampton. WEBSTER	Aaron	Private, 203331, 7th Battalion, East Surrey Regiment killed in action on Friday, 30th November 1917. Age 29. Born Over, enlisted Brighton, Sussex, resident Stanford-le-Hope, Essex. BRAYSHER	Owen Ernest	Sapper, 2072958, 250 Field Company, Royal Engineers who died on Tuesday, 29th October 1940. Age 20. Son of Ernest Charles and Ellen Caroline Braysher, of Over. Buried in OVER (ST. MARY) CHURCHYARD, Cambridgeshire. See Over St Mary also.
CARTER	Andrew Joseph	Sergeant (Wireless Operator/Air Gunner) 1161981, 207 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Bomber Command. Killed in action flying out of Waddington, Lincolnshire, in an Avro Manchester I, serial number L7312, when the aircraft was shot down by a Bf110 night fighter at Horendonk near Antwerp during a raid on Huls, one of the crew survived and was captured, Monday, 13th October 1941. Aged 26. Born 12 July 1915. Native of Over, Cambridgeshire. Son of Stephen Benjamin and Kate Ada Carter, of Over, Cambridgeshire. In the 1921 census he was aged 5, born Over, Cambridgeshire, son of Stephen Ben James and Kate Ada Carter, resident West Street, Over, Huntingdonshire. In the 1939 Register he was born 12 July 1915, and Insurance Agent, single, boarding at Linbury, Newmarket Road, Cambridge, Cambridge M.B., Cambridgeshire. Effects £777 0s. 5d Extract from Cambridge Independent Press 1941: WELL-KNOWN OVER MAN Sergeant Carter Missing Over Germany Sergt. Andrew Carter, R.A.F., who has been reported missing after an operational flight over Western Germany. The youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Carter, of Over, and brother of Flying Officer L. Carter, R.A.F., he was educated at Over Council School and the Cambridge School of Commerce. He commenced his business career with Mr. Cyril Watts, auctioneer and valuer St Ives, and then became the Prudential Assurance Company representative in the Fen Ditton and Newmarket Road area of Cambridge. He way a well-known skater and cyclist, winning several prizes, and was a member of the track team of the Cambridge Town and County Cycling Club in the Eastern Counties Cycling. Championships. He also played football for the Cambridge Town Reserves, and for the Over Club. For some time he was the Over local correspondent for the “Independent Press and Chronicle.”
JOHNSON	Douglas	Sapper, 2072955, 287 Field Company, Royal Engineers who died on Thursday, 6th January 1944. Age 23. Prisoner of War. Born in Over at Bury House in the High Street in the early 1920's and grew up in the village. When the Territorial Army called for recruits, he was among a group of Over men who responded. Cyril Badcock and Owen Braysher were also volunteers. Douglas was called up immediately in 1939. His parents were Benjamin Percy and Elizabeth Johnson who farmed at Hill Farm, Longstanton Road for many years. The farm only recently passed from the Johnson ownership. Hands.—Our picture is of Sapper Douglas Johnson, of the 287th Field Co, R.E., second son of Mr. and Mrs. B. Johnson, Hill Farm. Over, who died in January, 1944, of avitaminosis whilst a prisoner of war in. Japanese hands. After leaving the Technical School he went to the Engineering Laboratory. He joined the Territorial Army in March, 1939, and was called up when war broke out. He was well known in the district as a keen footballer and cricketer.
KEMP	Frank Ernest	Able Seaman, C/JX 150664, H.M.S. Vimiera, Royal Navy who died on Friday, 9th January 1942. Foster son of Edward and Ada Mason, of Over, Cambridgeshire. Commemorated on CHATHAM NAVAL MEMORIAL, Kent, 55, 1. See Over St Mary also.
MUSTILL	Marjorie N. B.	S.R.N., S.C.M., died 1st February 1942, age 34. Daughter of Grace Mustill, of High Street, Over, Cambridgeshire, England. Reported lost at sea off Singapore, aboard SS Vyner Brooke [Source: Over News]. Grew up in Over and was daughter of Horace and Grace Mustill who kept the Golden Lion in the High Street. She had trained as a nurse and had taken employment in the East to be a Sister. She was caught up in the evacuation of Singapore and was on a ship that was torpedoed and she was presumed drowned. PAPWORTH	Brian Hugh	Flight Sergeant, 1335836, Pilot, 70 Sqdn., Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died on Thursday, 25th November 1943. Age 22. Flew Wellington bombers, based Djedeida, Tunisia. Son of George Elliott Papworth and Minnie May Papworth, of Over, Cambridgeshire. Buried in STAGLIENO CEMETERY, GENOA, Italy. Grave I. B. 22. See Over St Mary also.
STOCKBRIDGE	Leonard	Sergeant, 1207576, W.Op./Air Gnr., 500 Sqdn., Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve based Blida, Algeria, with detachment at Tafaraoui, who died on Saturday, 3rd April 1943. Age 31.
