              2000, 1st/2nd East Anglian Field Amb, Royal Army Medical Corps. 
              Died of wounds on Tuseday 26th October 1915. Age 23. Son of Sansam 
              and Lucy Ann Jarrold, of St. Bernards, Soham, Cambs. Enlisted Norwich. 
              Commemorated on HELLES MEMORIAL, Turkey. Panel 199 and 200 or 236 
              to 239 and 328. See also Soham Memorial. Extract from Cambridge Daily News - Wednesday 10 November 1915, page 3: Soham R.A.M.C. Man Killed Mr. and Mrs. Jarrold, of Soham, have received news of the death of their son, Pte. Jarrold. of the R.A.M.C. Pte Jarrold enlisted in September, 1914, in the R.A.M.C., and went out to the Dardanelles in July of the present year. His death will come as a shock to the inhabitants of Soham, as he had been a student at the Grammar School and his kindly disposition endeared him to everyone. He was only 24 years of age. He was wounded in the thigh on October 15th in the Dardanelles. Mr Jarrold received the following communication from the chaplain of the hospital ship on which Pte Jarrold died: — “Dear Sir — No doubt by now you have heard of your son’s death on the hospital chip Aquitania. As chaplain of that ship it was my sad duty to bury him October 26th, 11.30 am in the Bay of Biscay. The cause of death was a wound in the thigh and dysentery. Please accept my deep sympathy iu your great sorrow. — Yours sincerely, P D ELLIS, Chaplain H.M.H.S. Aquitania.” Extract from Cambridge Independent Press - Friday 19 November 1915, page 3: PULPIT REFERENCES TO PTE. JARROLD.— Preaching on Sunday morning from the text "Blest are the dead that die in the Lord,” at the Parish Church, the vicar (the Rev. J. C. Rust) made sympathetic reference to the late Mr. Edward Freeman, whose death we recorded last week. The rev. gentleman also referred at some length the late Pte. G. Jarrold, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Jarrold. who died from wounds on a hospital ship, and was buried at sea in the Bay of Biscay. |

              5th May 1917 in Egypt. Born Freckenham, Suffolk, enlisted Mildenhall. 
              In the 1911 census he is the son of William W and MAry Rumbelow, 
              aged 15, a Farmer's Son working on farm, born Freckenham, resident 
              Freckenham, Soham, Cambridgeshire (sic). Buried in KANTARA WAR MEMORIAL 
              CEMETERY, Egypt. Section F. Grave 289. William RUMBELOW was in the 
              school in 1908. |

              Lance Corporal, 2444, City of London Yeomanry (Rough Riders) who 
              died on Friday, 12th July 1918. Age 22. Son of Harry Warwick Townsend 
              and Constance Townsend, of "Sunnyside," Soham, Cambs. Buried in 
              FORDHAM (SS. PETER AND MARY MAGDALENE) CHURCHYARD, Cambridgeshire 
              in North-East part.

              & Elizabeth Varrow, born b. 1888. George was educated at Soham 
              Grammar School, Soham Cambridgeshire. Husband of Beatrice E. Varrow, 
              of "The Firs," High St., Wivenhoe, Essex. Buried in ST.
