LITTLETON WAR MEMORIAL

The Littleton War memorial stands in the grounds of St. Catherine's Church, Littleton. It is a stone latin cross mounted on a three stepped plinth with inscriptions on the front and rear faces of the plinth. There are four names listed for World War 1. Lance Corporal 33253, 15th Battalion, Hampshire. Killed in action 20th September 1917. Enlisted WInchester, resident Harestock. No known grave. Commemorated on TYNE COT MEMORIAL, Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 88 to 90 and 162.

DAVIS John 'Jack' [Alderage]

Private 19306 [CWGC 10306], 10th Battalion, Hampshire Regiment. Killed in action at Gallipoli 19th August 1915 [CWGC 10th August]. Born Burcombe, Wiltshire, enlisted Winchester, resident Littleton. No known grave Commemorated on HELLES MEMORIAL, Turkey. Panel 125-134 or 223-226 228-229 & 328.

FISHER William

Private 10657, 14th (Service) Battalion, Hampshire Regiment. Killed in action 2nd August 1917. Aged 28. Born Stockbridge, enlisted Winchester, resident Littleton. Son of William H. Fisher, of 48, Eastgate St., Winchester, and the late Annie Fisher. Buried in BUFFS ROAD CEMETERY, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Plot/Row/Section D. Grave 32.

PENTON Ernest Oliver

Private 14913, 2nd Battalion, Hampshire Regiment. Killed in action at Gallipoli 6th August 1915. Aged 32. Born Crawley, Hampshire, enlisted Winchester, resident Littleton. Son of Isaac Penton, of Littleton, Winchester; husband of Louisa Penton, of 13, St. James' Terrace, Winchester. No known grave. Commemorated on HELLES MEMORIAL, Turkey. Panel 125-134 or 223-226 228-229 & 328.
