Lance
Corporal 16750, 1st Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Died of wounds
Tuesday, 5th November 1918. Age 24. Born Arlesey, Beds, resident
and enlisted Letchworth. Born at Arlesey, Beds. Son of William and
Fanny Brown, of 2, Ridge Avenue, Letchworth, Herts. Buried in north-west
part of Jolimetz Communal Cemetery, Nord, France.
Message
from Michael Cross - 14th April 2002: "I was at this man's
grave recently (no personal connection; I visit Jolimetz most years)
and thought I would mention to you that his grave receives a poppy
each Remembrance Sunday from some locals who were originally from
England. His is a lonely grave, being the only CWG in a French Communal
Cemetery. I visit this place only because my Granddad was there
in 1918 - L/C Brown's grave is the only obvious sign that the war
passed this way. The adjoining Forest of Mormal has rather more
significance in relation to the Great War."
