It
was announced yesterday that Pilot-Officer John Gorton Pope,
R.A.F.V.R. (202 Squadron), who was previously reported missing,
has now being officially presumed killed in action on September
10, 1942.
Pilot Officer Pope was the younger son of the late Dr. Charles
A. W. Pope and of Mrs. Pope, of 7, Sedlescombe-road South,
St. Leonards, and was 29 years of age.
Mrs, Pope is joint hon. secretary of the local branch of the
National Council of Women. Throughout the war she served as
a full-time C.D. warden
