Squadron Leader (Pilot) 89358, 227 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Country of service United Kingdom. Killed in action flying out of Luqa, Malta, in a Bristol Beaufighter VIC, serial number X8030, when he flew into the mast of a ship and crashed during an attack on a small convoy off the coast of Libya 14 October 1942. Aged 22. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (D.F.C.). Native of Twickenham, Middlesex. Son of Percy Edward and Keturah Underwood, of Twickenham, Middlesex. Panel 2, Column 1.
UNDERWOOD William Neville
Sergeant (Air Gunner) 955160, 142 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Country of service United Kingdom. Killed in action flying out of Blida, Algeria, in a Vickers Wellington III, serial number DF696, when his aircraft was lost during a raid on Tunis, probably shot down by a night fighter, 17 April 1943. Native of Newton, Derbyshire. Son of William Eli and Hannah Underwood, of Newton, Derbyshire. Panel 9, Column 2.
URRY Selwyn Sanderson
Major (Pilot) 102736V, 31 Squadron, South African Air Force. Country of service South Africa. Killed in action while flying out of Celone, Italy, in a Consolidated Liberator BVI, serial number KH158, when his aircraft was lost without trace in bad weather during a sortie to drop supplies to partisans 12 miles northeast of Genoa, northern Italy, between 12 October 1944 and 13 October 1944. Aged 29. Native of Bulawayo, Southern Rhodesia. Son of Robin S. and Florence E. Urry; husband of Maureen A. Urry, of Bulawayo, Southern Rhodesia. Panel 17, Column 1.
