Memorial
stands outside the village of Sandhead, at the side of the main road
from Stoneykirk. Made of granite it is for the Parish of Stoneykirk
that is 3 miles away. It lists 41 names of the first war and 4 of
the second. Two brothers' names at the bottom on the south face look
as if they have been added as an afterthought as they are not cast
in bronze like the rest of the first war ones. The second war names
are on the west or facing side as you approach it. Some Regiments
are Nign. Regiment. The Can.G.A. The Aus. Ex force which may have
been The Australian Expeditionary Force. It could have been allied
with the Aust.I.F. i.e. Australian Infantry Force. The N. & D.R
may be the Nottinghamshire And Derbyshire Regiment and the D.W.R.
could have been The Duke Of Wellingtons Regiment. Another one is (A.I.Y.)
Australian Imperial Yeomanry. An unusual rank is a F.C. IN THE R.A.F.
(Flight Cadet). (Grid Reference: NX097504).
