The memorial stands at the junction of Station Road and Main Street, in Main Street, Allerton Bywater, Leeds. It takes the form of a Maltese style cross surmounting tall hexagonal column, plinth and two stepped basen that is set in small, elevated, flower bed surrounded by a low stone wall with small bronze angels mounted on the opposing faces, one holding a wreath and the other a sword. There are 147 names listed for World War 1 and 19 names for World War 2.

Killed at RAF Upwood at 11.20 hrs when Lancaster ND978 exploded whilst the removal of a bomb load was being carried out, the aircraft had returned from Le Havre with the load intact. The blast killed six ground crew including Cpl W E Gill. Of the other 5 killed, 4 were never found and are No known grave. Commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.

Killed when Lancaster NF994 HA-N crashed near Depden Green village, 1 mile SW of Chedburgh airfield. it had taken off for ops to Bremen at 14.59hrs from Chedburgh but had returned early with engines problems. It crashed at 20.32 hrs killing 5 and injuring 2 more, one of which later died.
