World War 1 & 2 - Detailed information
Compiled and copyright © Transcribed Les Horn 2015

The memorial is to be found on the A83 between Glasgow and Campbelltown in Glenbarr, Argyll. The memorial takes the form of a rectangular stone base with sloping sides surmounted by a plinth, stepped stone shaft and a stone cross; at the foot of the four corners of the shaft are four uncut stones representing four sections of the parish, each stone taken from the four sites. There are dedicatory slate tablets set into the front face of the plinth and base. The First World War section of the memorial was first unveiled and dedicated 28 July 1922 and the Second World War section was unveiled 7 November 1954. The original architect was Mr Alexander N Paterson ARSA and the builders Messrs Neil Macarthur. There are 22 names for World War 1 and 8 for World War 2.
