The battalion was originally raised by the Cambridgeshire and Isle of Ely Territorial Force Association and designated the 11th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment three months later. It went to France in January 1916 and served on the Western Front until the end of the war. The battalion was disbanded in November 1919.
