On
the 5th April 1982, a large British task force set out on a 7500
mile journey to liberate a group of tiny windswept islands in
the South Atlantic. On 1st May began the biggest naval action
to take place since the Second World War - nearly 900 men from
both sides lost their lives, 260 of them serving with British
Forces or Islanders.

There
is a memorial
to all Royal Marines and those that served with them in the Falklands
campaign. It is situated at the entrance to the Royal Marines
Museum at Southsea overlooking the Solent. There is also a memorial
to those who died while serving on HMS
Coventry
