Second Lieutenant, 32nd Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment). Killed in action 15 September 1916. Aged 23. Born Cheltenham on 3 May 1893. Son of of the Rev. Ernest Clapton and Margaret Jane Clapton, of The Orchard, Sherborne, Dorset formerly of Stebbing Vicarage, Chelmsford. Attended Lickey Hills Preparatory School and Sherborne Preparatory School. Attended Sherborne School (Abbeylands) September 1907-July 1912; 6th form. Attended Magdalene College, Cambridge. In the 1901 census he was aged 7, born Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, resident with his parents at Christ Church House, Ashford, West Ashford, Kent. In the 1911 census he was aged 17, born Cheltenham, at school, resident with his parents at The Vicarage, Hatherden, Andover, Hampshire. Joined the Public Schools Battalion and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment), 32nd Battalion. No known grave.
