Lieutenant(S) Royal Navy, HMS Hood. Died 24/05/1941. Age 23. Son of the Venerable Thomas Robert Browne, Archdeacon of Ipswich and Ellen Gertrude Browne of Elmsett Rectory. Commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. On 24th May 1941, the battle cruiser HMS Hood, together with HMS Prince of Wales, engaged the German Battleship Bismark and the Heavy Cruiser Prinz Eugen in the Denmark Straights. HMS Hood received several direct hits and blew up, only 3 of her 1,418 crew survived |
