The University of Birmingham memorials take the form of marble tablets in the main entrance to the Aston Webb building, University of Birmingham. There are three tablets to World War 1 and one for World War 2. The University of Birmingham World War 2 Memorial was dedicated on Sunday 19th June 1949 at 3pm. There are 116 names listed for World War 2 which have bene tranmscribed here, those for World War 1 still require transcribing. In 1914, at the beginning of World War One, the military authorities requisitioned the University which became the First Southern General Hospital. This is commemorated in a plaque above the entrance to the Great Hall.
