The plaques in the Shire Hall commemorated those council employees who fell in each conflict. The World War 1 memorial takes the form of a nowy-headed, wooden, board with gilt lettering and barckets at the base; there is a laurel garland in relief around the border with three reversed plags in relief beneath the inscription and the county coat of arms in relief at the top centre; there are four names listed. The World War 2 memorial is a wall mounted, wooden, board that is counded at the top with a square base and white painted leteering and the county coat of arms painted at the top; there are seven names listed.

BUTLER	Clifford Hicks	Second Lieutenant, 5th (Angus and Dundee) Battalion (Territorials), Black Watch (Royal Highlanders). Killed in action 23rd April 1917. Son of Mrs. S. Butler, of 7, Thorpe Rd., Norwich. Buried in BROWN'S COPSE CEMETERY, ROEUX, Pas de Calais, France. Plot I. Row H. Grave 3. See also Cambridge Guildhall
DANT	Alfred Herbert	Rifleman A/200636 9th Battalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps who died of wounds on Wednesday, 27th March 1918. Aged 19. Born and enlisted Cambridge. Son of Alfred and Ellen Dant, of 1, Ivy Cottages, Bermuda Rd., Cambridge. No known grave. Commemorated on POZIERES MEMORIAL, Somme, France. Panel 61 to 64. DAVIES	Frederick Charles	Captain, Royal Army Medical Corps attached 9th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers who was killed in action on Wednesday, 17th October 1917. Aged 33. Son of William and Ellen Davies. M.A., M.B., B. Chir. (Cambs), M.R.C.P. Buried in TALANA FARM CEMETERY, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Plot III. Row K. Grave 3.
HUCKLE	Harry	Company Serjeant Major 16664, 11th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment who was killed in action on Saturday, 1st July 1916. Born Bedford, enlisted Cambridge. Husband of Kate Gertrude Huckle, of 74, Blinco Grove, Cambridge. In the 1911 census he had been married for 8 years to Kate Gertrude Huckle and they had a seven year old daughter, he was 32, an Inspector Clerk Local taxation, born Bedford and resident 25 Marshall Road, Cherryhinton, Cambridge. BAXTER	John	Ordinary Telegraphist, P/JX 301162, HMS Algerine, Royal Navy. Died on 15th November 1942 aged 19 years. His ship was torpedoed by an Italian Submarine during blockade duties. Son of James and Sarah Jane Baxter of Cambridge. He is commemorated at Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Panel 67, Column 1. UK. See also Cambridge Guildhall and also Cambridge St John's Extract from Cambridge Daily News in 1942: MISSING, PRESUMED KILLED Mrs. Baxter, of 92, Mowbray Road, Cambridge, has just received news that her son, Ordinary Telegraphist John Baxter, is missing, presumed killed, off French North Africa. Before joining the Navy a year ago at the age of 18, he was employed at the Shirehall in the medical department. He was an old Central School boy.
DAWKINS	Robert Alfred Walter	Flight Sergeant 1603728 299 Sqdn., Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died on Saturday, 31st March 1945. Age 21. Son of Alfred Robert and Elsie Louise Dawkins, of Cambridge. Commemorated on the RUNNYMEDE MEMORIAL, Surrey. Panel 270. See also Cambridge Guildhall Extract from Cambridge Daily News in 1945: Reported Missing.—Our picture is of Flight Sergt. R. A. Dawkins, R.A.F., son of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Dawkins, of 52 Radegund Road, Cambridge, who is reported missing. Sergt. Dawkins was in the Airborne Forces that made the crossing over the Rhine. Before joining up he was employed in the Accounts De¬partment at the Shirehall. He was educated at the Central School, and the Technical College. He was interested in the youth movement, being a member of the King's Own Youth Centre
HANCOCK	Frank Holgate	Lieutenant No. 43 R.M. Commando., Royal Marines who died on Tuesday, 28th March 1944. Age 20. Son of Francis James Hancock and Mildred Hancock, of Bearsted, Kent. HAWKES	William Dick	Pilot Officer 145836 207 Sqdn., Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died on Thursday, 13th May 1943. Age 26. Son of Charles Peter and Ethel May Hawkes, of Swaffham Prior, Cambridgeshire. Buried in AMERSFOORT (OLD LEUSDEN) GENERAL CEMETERY, Netherlands. Plot 13. Row 6. Grave 109.
